It aint always pretty but its true

Thee only reason I am where I am today is because of my blatant honesty, be it off color or not. I could easily become another cookie cutter and probably have huge potential at that and reach the most audience, hell I can be a cooler martha stewart, but thats not where I want to be. My art and method of teaching is infused with my life, and my life is filled with ups, downs, and contradictions. People read my blog not because Im the best artist in the world, others do what I do and do it well but I would bet that none have as loyal a following. Its an attitude I am selling, promoting, advocating, above anything else. Empowerment. Its not the clean sanitized version like youll find in polished barnes and noble books but the gritty real life shit we go through. It's feminism at its highest and that is the highest service I offer women. And that takes being as true to life as I possibly can.

When I put out there the whole B movie thing I was warned not to, that it will tarnish my image and perhaps turn some people away. But in fact, it brought them closer to me. Because Im real. I admit what I do and I do not apologize for it. I am NOT a christian fundamentalist nor do I want to pretend to be. Not that there is anything wrong with that but its not my path. I want to sleep with SHANE for petes sake. and I was a stripper for 15 years. Although I am more than these things my experiences make me who I am, and the more myself I act the more I allow others to be themselves too. and this, in my opinion, is what brings everyone here.

I really mean it when I talk about revolution.

someone said once I was a "master of marketing" and I told them Ive never marketed in my fucking life. As if my lack of hair washing and making videos in my pajamas is an elaborate plan. Im just a chick on the floor of her room talking to a video camera and pretending it is her best friend. Because I want a best friend. I want authenticity. I want to tell someone my secrets FINALLY TELL MY SECRETS, and not live a bullshit life anymore. I cant breathe with secrets in my throat.

Although I want to be out there as much as I can and let this all get as big as it possibly can I dont forsee the usual way of getting there. With the internet all has changed anyway. No longer do we need editors or publishers to see good things in us, we see them in ourselves and put our art there anyway. I dont know about you but Id LOVE to read a craft book in which they said PUT THIS FUCKING THING OVER HERE THEN ADD THE OTHER FUCKING THING TO IT and stopped the sterilized boring CRAP I see everywhere.

Why does Rachel Rae look like an airbrushed waif on magazine covers but ooh 20 lbs heavier on her TV show?

Although I invite other markets to love me I will not court them in any special way. Im not going to dumb down my message or make it easier to swallow for the quilting ladies. If they are hungry for new ideas in fabric art, for something fresh, they will listen. If not then there are countless cardboard lifeless 'crafters' out there for them to follow.

I want a new breed of art chicas. I want lesbian orgies of wild abandon ART LOVE. I want goddesses coast to coast painting in tee shirts with out a bra and if all the retreat circuits out there dont want me and my ladies SO BE IT. We will start our own little revolution out here in the corner.

Can I get a hallelujah?

Full steam ahead baby.

yours,
suzi

Hallelujah and Amen!

This is the spirit that inspires me to be who I am and either people love it or not. I don't have time to convince others of myself, you know?

Suzi, you are at the top of my list of people who have given this 44 yo, wife and mother the courage to jump off that cliff I had stood on for years. Imagine my joy to find that I have wings!!

My purpose is being revealed and I ecstatic to be following that path.

Thank you for being you!

Blogs are for expressing your art, your opinions or anything else you want to. Are you not supposed to express them simply because they might not match someone elses? It works both ways, if someone doesn't agree, there are millions of other blogs out there to read. Man, the "L" word, the "F" word... Suzi, you better start watching those "Ps" and "Qs" too... ;). Keep doing what you're doing, it's very much appreciated.

When did authenticity stop being cool? Life is simply too short not to dive into a fully authentic life. It's exhausting to maintain a facade.
It's your authenticity and enthusiasm for honest art that kicked me in the butt to start creating again! I don't get inspired by Martha Stewart; I get inspired by energy and you have it!
Thanks for the honesty,
don't ever stop.

Hallelujah! You mean I can make art bra less in a T-Shirt! Hot Damn! This is what life is all about...letting go of EGO and society's stigmas that we have to be a certain way. And if we want to dance naked, well so be it, naked is cool! And if "they" don't like what you do, then screw them, it's not about "them"! It is about us, we chickies, making art bra less in our t-shirts and screaming to the world "I am somebody". Cause we are, no matter what any one else thinks, we are all beautiful! And Suzi, if it takes us watching you to find who we really are then that is a wonderful moment in life, to begin again, breaking out of our cacoons (sp?) and growing our own freaking wings and flying!
And I bet you were the greatest stripper, and who cares, who is anyone to judge what we do? You are you, and that is great. I have done some things that even my husband doesn't know about, and I have never shared, fear maybe? Of what people would think. So we have secrets...doesn't everyone.
Thanks for inspiring me to grow some wings, big girlie ones, with glitter and some attitude that has laid dorment for years.....

You represent what it is to be real and announce to the world on a regular basis that we are all free to BE. You take away the fear to create and it has totally changed me and I know countless others.

I may not be a lesbian, but this SAHM does paint without a bra (can't believe I just said that! lol) and lets the kids in her family and neighborhood paint and sculpt without fear of messing up or making a mess. Raising soldiers for your revolution...all are free to be!

I think you also teach people that its ok to go through shit, and tell people about it, and not pretend everything is ok, like many women feel the need to do.

Suzi, you went through this a few months ago regarding You Tube. And you've been respectful (heck, you even clean up, wear makeup etc). But as to YOUR blog. I doubt your blog would be profiled in the Blogger magazine you referenced a while back, because of your content.

This community, the Suzi Blu'z, not only supports you, but me and others. I welcome your risks, edginess, language, and leaps of faith (take that....). I am reminded of my own leaps of faith, going to edge, only to learn there are steps going down. I am fueled by my life experiences as I evolve creatively. I laugh outloud, jolting the napping cat, when I catch myself holding back. Life is life, and art is AN expression of life. Why is it that we take life risks, but hesitate longer or what ever creatively?

So I don't mind your language, or who you love (it's better than not loving) and these shouting matchs. You're blog, art and pursuit to create speak more about who and what you are AND reminder to all that the beauty of diamonds are created by its many facets.

Hallelujah. And

Suzi, what interested me about you was the fact that you are sweet and sincere and quirky. I love that in a person. I love that you tell people to get out there and make art and to stop being so critical of themselves.

I think when people judge one another, they cheat themselves out of the opportunity of learning something and enriching their lives. They miss the gift. I think life in general should be about INclusion not EXclusion.

I also think life would be *SO* BORING if we were all cookie cutter people.

"There is only one you for all time. Fearlessly be yourself."

"Be true to that which exists nowhere but in yourself."

The interesting thing to me is that people forget that thier values are a code of ethics to operate by FOR THEMSLEVES.

I would laugh my a** off if I found an art book like that on the shelf and then probably buy copies to send to all my friends. Why not? Art (and life) is messy, fun, free, wild...books should reflect that!

Suzi, don't let the moral police get to you. Those types think they are the "gold standard" by which we should all measure ourselves. Most of the time they are nothing but unhappy, unfulfilled people with no life to speak of. There are far greater "wrongs/sins" in this world that they could devote their energies to other than Suziblu's potty mouth or her unseemly past. :P lol They could work on war, injustice, hate, animal abuse, etc. So you just keep on being you and let the finger-waggers move on to "Church Chat" with the church lady...remember that on SNL?... "We like ourselves, don't we?" (...church ladies think we shouldn't like ourselves, remember? ) From one potty mouth to another...you have an f***ing great day!! <3

Suzi, we haven't yet met, and I'm so bummed that I missed dinner with you and Bernie when she was in town; but girl, I signed up for your class next Sunday and I CAN'T WAIT. you keep right on SAYING IT the way it is, and the way it wants to come out. swear words are nothing more than swear words, and they are COLORFUL. i'm a catholic, and I swear. not so proud of it, but i sure don't try to sugarcoat or hide it. it's just WHO and HOW I am ... so let's rock on and be who we are. straight, gay, artistic, with happy and sad days and angry days, too. let's just be REAL. -- Davi
