After a fabulous and overwhelming response to the question Do You Want Suzi To Teach You How To Make Beautiful Girls In Shabby Backgrounds...the work to create an online class BEGINS! Here Suzi is hard at work copying down all the replies from her goddess babies as to what are the things she should focus on teaching. OH AND IT WILL BE GRAND. Especially for Suzi's Dutchies (tiny women who wear wooden shoes and eat chocolate and speak in fairy language) as they are on an island too far away to come over and have tea in person, so an online party is just what they need. OH THE LITTLE DUTCHIES NEED LOVE! and suzi lives to give it to them.
Im thinking all will be ready by July 1st, so no signing up until then. Let me get my shit together.

I dont think there needs to be a limit does there? I mean, once the class starts I wont be making art much during that time, maybe one painting a week for ebay but I will give all of my energy to my students. Lets say there is even 50 students I think I could handle that - with questions and chats, if I do nothing else, right?
Im getting real excited about this. I am thinking along with the weekly lesson and assignment (via real time video not sped up)there will also be a motivating/uplifting spiritual kind of lesson and assignment. Like one week, how to get over blocks, and the next, a guided meditation. YAY. this is really freaking cool. its like, the best class ever youd want to take, thats what I want it to be like. everything I didnt get when I first went to art school.
Yay yay yay! I can't wait.

It's an awesome idea Suzi - you will be written in history books. I am currently a mature age Art student and all Uni is teaching me is how to write essays on past artists. I'm learning more from your videos than the thousands of dollars I'm racking up in student loans I've accumulated the last couple of years. But I need that piece of paper that says I have a degree. Go figure

Oh, Suzi, what an awesome thing! Please tell me how it works, I've never taken an online class before. Will your students actually see you on camera live as you teach? Will we be able to download the class and watch at our own time and pace? How exactly will it work?

Yeah you're right Fleur, we are very tall actually. I'm 6'2" (really!). Okay not every woman is that tall, but still we're not tiny lol.

you're right fleur! I'm actually 5"8, which also isn't small, but my parents aren't from holland so that doesn't really count. But my mom is from south-america, so for a half latina I'm pretty tall I guess.

Woww Ish, you are reallly tall! Still pretty close to me though haha, I'm 5'11"! My dad is actually around 6'5.5"! But yeah I think most dutch people, especially around our age, near or in twenties, are at least 5'8" or taller! The land of the giantsss!! Hahah!! :p Oh and for example Lurch, from the Addams family (the 1991 version), you know, the realllly tall guy, he's a dutchie, hahaha!! Fortunately we're not all that creepy though haha! Oooh how I loved the Addams family... *snap snap*
What about us part German, part Irish, part Italian girls. Please don't leave us out.

Paulette Insall is a wonderful artist (check my links for her blog) who recently started doing online classes. I like her format and Im going to do that.
Students will have membership to a site that is exclusively for them. They will have passwords to get on. Each monday there will be a new video only they can see- that will be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours long. SLOW INSTRUCTION in real time. Video will be able to be viewed at anytime it is convenient for you. Video will contain instruction that builds upon the week before and specific assignments, including art journal work. I think students should keep a journal to go along with the class. somewhere to record their experiences, keep notes, draw sketches, that sort of thing.
There will also be daily emails of love, encouragement, and motivation.
and live chats. Im thinking 2 a week? not sure yet. maybe more. probably more. since Im going to do nothing else during the class I want to be available. chats will be student only. perhaps I will even have the cam up continuously and you can ask me a question whenever you want (if Im not sleeping). I kind of like the sound of that. Offering that kind of availability. If Im in the room of course. ha. But scheduled chat sessions.
also there will be a flickr group for students to post work and support each other. This is optional and not mandatory.
I was up till 2 copying your demands and putting them into a 6 week course. So far I have:
week 1: DRAWING THE FIGURE - simple lines and geometrical shapes, practice on placements of angles of heads, gestures. How to make eyes straight, different eyes, young face versus adult.
week 2: Shading and skin tone. Mediums. Wood burning
week 3: dressing your dolls and creating your own pattern papers
week 4: layering Part 1
week 5: Layering Part 2, Beeswax 101
week 6: Final Steps: Mica, antiquing, sparkles, varnish.
YAY!
And I dont care whAt you say Dutchies will always be tiny small and fit together in a little pocket in my heart where I can keep them close and safe.

Whatever I have learned in art has mostly been through the pages of a book but now I want to take this class! Number one reason is the teacher that will be giving the class. I have never been so inspired, motivated, thrilled and excited, and thoroughly gifted until I met you! Thanks for everything and being such a positive gal...I needed that! I’m hoping there will be room for all to take your class and I certainly could use some happy company and make new friends. Suzi for those of us that can't get in the class...will you have a DVD video made of your classes... all 6 weeks...that could be purchased by the rest of us? Seems like you will have tons more than 50 wanting to be in this class...this would be a way for those of us left out to still get your lessons. So hope this is a possibility! Or even a way that the-lessons videos only- could be accessed without the live chat-n extra wonderful parts...so we all can access your teaching!
