Nov 23 National Buy Nothing Day

Join me and BUY NOTHING tomorrow! Think about it - do your loved ones really need the gifts you are planning to give them? Seriously. socks? again? a CD. a friggin nother bathrobe? Think about what you are buying and dont be mindless and buy because its expected of you. The stress. The malls. For what? 2 seconds of ooh gee wiz thanks for this thing and then a lifetime of forgetting it. If you want to get holiday presents for loved ones stay home tomorrow and make them things instead.

I am making a lot of my gifts. Not going out tomorrow except for a walk. There are some links to some tudorials on my blog. Look under my Heading Flassie's Fil'a and I have written a date were I had made a blog entry for the tutorials. ihanna has a really cute cat basket. You'll have to scroll down to find it in her tutorials. She also has made some cute gloves & a rubbarb bowl. Creative kismet is on my list at the right. Dd & I are making those foot & back warmers out of material and flax seeds. I've made cat toys, dolls, I am going to try & write dgrnd a book maybe sew a book for her too with silloettes & draw a picture of her maybe in colored pencil for my ds & ddil. One yr. I made two dncs dolls & their brother was disappointed that he didn't get one. He was 7 at the time. So I made him one too. I've given photographs and collages out of my b&w photos painted with oils and collges with papers. I think that is the first gift I ever seen my mom's eyes really light up. It was for her BD but you can do it anytime of year. I also had taken one photo & did different things to it in a dark room & framed them. You can collage them also. Make a Scrapbook page and frame photos or collage. I think I have a photo of a collage I did for my dd on year up on my blog. I made it out of sheet music. If a record that I bought at the thrift shop doesn't sound all that great I will melt it into a bowl or mail holder. It's yellow in color. Martha Stewart has a patterns for slippers on her site. I made mine a litte different only because I used different material that I wanted to recycle. I have made billfold & checkbook cover out of old pairs of jeans. Going to make Grocery bags out of material I have. I have made hat & ban boxes in the past. I hope I haven't misspelled anything. It's late & I am to tired to correct anything right now. Oh, dgrd lives in another country so I plan I making a CD with Songs for her that I will sing for her. A parent can read books and make CD's out of them. I seen a parent at a site it's on utube also that taped their childs voice reading a story they had written. It is called Hipply Bunny I think. It's posted somewhere in a blog entry on my blog. Hope this is what you wanted. Ideas. I am trying to use most of what I already have and make gifts. Have a Blessed Week! Flassie

I live in Scotland so we miss the whole scary Black Friday thing. But my dh is from the Midewest so he has told me what's it's like. We go mad enough shopping here anyway and I am so sick of having "buy this buy that buy it NOW!" bombarding us. Scary stuff........much nicer to make things....now can I make Lego blocks in the shape of Star Wars thingies????

Yes!! ME!! I'm not buying anything. We made lists in my family and that's what we'll buy off of. I used to make a lot more presents but most of the recipients just didn't "get" the whole handmade thing. They're all like "hell, we can't take it back and exchange it for cash!"

I'm really glad this concept is finally catching on in such a huge way.

I've boycotted Black Friday for about 15 years, so far. In fact, the only "Holiday shopping" I do these days is for art supplies, because I also only do handmade gifts (a tradition that started those same 15 years ago)... gifts made with by own hands, not someone else's :o)

I find that it really helps me get into the spirit much more so that dropping a paycheck or 2 at Target (because I also boycott Walmart ;o) The time I spend working on each project is time dedicated to thinking only of the recipient and sending out lots of love in the process.

SuziBlu.. you rock!

Hey Christmas Gift Baskets!
I ADORE black sox, they are great for sewing ribbons on, or buttons, or bells, or. . .painting them with glitter paints.
I don't really have any black sox myself, but that's what i *would* do if someone gave them to me. Then when i saw that person next, i would say, "I so dig receiving the cool black sox. They make the perfect substrate, just look at these (holding my ankle up for their viewing pleasure) so, thank you!"
