I have a question - I haven't watched this video yet - my kids and I just got started with our art journals - yep - my middle daughter and I wanted to do them and when we started it looked so fun that the other two kids joined us. I fingerpainted for the first time in my life.
However, being somewhat unfamiliar with art mediums - we used oil pastels and then some acrylic paints on top on Saturday - and they are still not dry. Our pages are curling a bit but I think that will get better once it dries and we can shut the book.
Any suggestions?

Jewels,
what beautiful pink swirls of color! Im going to put up a beginners page on my site soon with pictures of materials and go over basics in detail for easy refrence. I applaud you that youre doing art with your kids. It shows not only that you want to spend time with them but you share in the magic of creating something from nothing.

About pages - Moleskine Journals are the best to work on bcz the pages are harder, watercolor paper journals are good too BUT you can also use cheapie paper journals. the pages are thinner and you WILL experience SOME curling..but its not too bad. by looking at yr picture that seems about right. About being tacky though....the oil pastels must be covered in all areas with acrylic paint and the book allowed to dry open. Depending on how thick paint is applied will determine how long it takes to thoroughly dry. PORTFOLIO brand water soluable oil pastels are the best to use because they are not too thick when you smooth them out.

This gives me a great idea to have a page on my site showing the results of different mediums on paper.
thanks for writing Jewels. Keep up journaling with your kids! - sue

Another new exercise, and I'm not caught up on the ones you've posted already! I've still got brads and eyelets to do! This one is really scary, but I can do it. Thanks so much, Suzi, for your support and encouragement. It means the world to me.

Suzi,
Well this one sounds like a big ask, but you have given me the courage to try, to make mistakes, and just to BE. The video is fantastic as usual, you and your art are very beautiful.
Til next week!

Ah - my daughter's boyfriend came over and we realized that what we used was oil paint!!! Which is why it is not drying. Is reading or following directions necessary for creating art? I may not do so well!
